Kolonaki: an unique and appealing Athens’ Neighborhood
An upscale neighborhood in central Athens, Greece, Kolonaki (meaning «slight column» in Greek), is named after a small column of 2m that stands in the center of Kolonaki Square (real name "Filikis Etaireias") that defined the area even before the area's urbanization. The column was moved there from Dexameni square.
The district stretches out from Syntagma Square to the foot of Lycabettus hill, the highest point of Athens. Regarded as the most aristocratic district of Athens due to its strategic location, which is within walking distance from Syntagma square, the political, commercial and financial center of the Greek capital, the area first developed in the 19th century, and many of the properties that once housed Athens´ elite are today occupied by Greek politicians, celebrities, and entrepreneurs.
